Dark chocolate & banana smoothie bowl

IMG_2663

Ever had one of those mornings when you want to kick-start your day with a bowl of chocolate? A dark chocolate-banana smoothie is the perfect solution, although a tad more toward the indulgent choices for a simple mid-morning snack. Think of it as a chocolate mousse in flavour, only with greens and much healthier. You read right, I said greens! Trust me, you won’t taste any of it. Smoothie bowls are all about getting wholesome ingredients packed into a single bowl of goodness. No one said you couldn’t throw in a bit of chocolate!

PREPARATION TIME: 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 frozen bananas (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoon dark cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond/peanut butter *(optional)
  • 1/4 cup skimmed milk/almond milk
  • Few leaves of baby spinach
  • 1 tablespoon porridge oats
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds

METHOD

Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend for a few minutes until smooth. This recipe uses frozen bananas as the base of the smoothie, that are naturally sweet. If you still feel the need to, preferably use natural sweeteners such as organic honey or agave syrup. You can add as much or as little milk as you want, depending on the thickness you prefer.

Pour your smoothie into a bowl and add any toppings of your choice. I’ve topped my bowl with flaked almonds, bee pollen, chia seeds and a cheeky bit of dark chocolate shavings.

If you give this recipe a go, I’d love to see how it turned out. Leave a comment below and share your pictures on Instagram using the tag #thecookbooklife!

Just start small I guess, make time to blog once a week or whatever works best for you and stick to it! Good luck with your blog! ❤
